Token identity and verification

After this page you should be able to refuse a ticker as a primary key.

What identifies an asset

Two tokens can share a name and a symbol and still be unrelated contracts. The identifier this site uses is the chain and the address when the row has them, and the CoinGecko id when the row is a native or listed coin with no single contract. Dogecoin is the second kind. Pepe at 0x6982508145454ce325ddbe47a25d4ec3d2311933 is the first.

A search box that matches only the symbol will mix them. The collision list on a research page is every other row in the current file with that symbol. It is regenerated from the file. It is not a hardcoded hall of copies.

The common misunderstanding

A scanner that requires a contract will describe a peg or a copy in detail and go quiet on the coin people meant. Silence is not a verdict on the coin. Detail is not a verdict on the copy. Binance-Peg Dogecoin has holders and a pool because it is a BNB Chain contract. Native Dogecoin does not, in this file, because the row has no contract to scan.

Worked check

Before using a number, read the id. If you came for DOGE and the address starts with 0x, you are not on the native coin. If you came for PEPE and the chain is not Ethereum, you are not on the franchise this site writes about. The case study is the Dogecoin identity note.

Check

Does an 0x address labelled DOGE establish that you are looking at Dogecoin?

No. It establishes a contract that uses the ticker. Native Dogecoin has no address on its primary row.
