Dogecoin: which asset the ranking actually means
After reading this, you should be able to tell the native coin from every other row that uses the ticker DOGE.
Published 2026-10-12. Substantive review 2026-10-12. Figures are the observation time.
Identity
Dogecoin began in December 2013. Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer built it as a joke on the Doge meme, using the Litecoin codebase. It is its own network. It is not an ERC-20, and it is not the token at a single Ethereum or BNB Chain address.
The primary row in this file is the CoinGecko asset dogecoin. It carries a rank, a price and a market cap. It does not carry a chain or a contract. That absence is the identity. If a page shows you an 0x address and calls it Dogecoin, you are looking at a representation, a peg, or a different coin.
What this file can and cannot say
The observation panel is the print for this asset at the file’s generated time. Market cap there is price times the supply figure CoinGecko used. This file does not attach a holder count, a top-10 share, or a safety verdict to the native coin, because those checks are written for contracts.
A second row, Binance-Peg Dogecoin, uses the same ticker on BNB Chain and does have a contract, a pool, holders and a verdict. It is listed further down. Trading that contract is not trading the coin miners produce on the Dogecoin network.
How to read the rest of this franchise
The economics note explains why market cap and fully diluted value sit on top of each other here, and why that is not a liquidity figure. The identity note is the peg. The liquidity note is the missing pool. None of them is a forecast.
What this page does not establish
- This franchise has not reviewed Dogecoin node software, block rewards or a current issuance schedule from a primary client release.
- No interview with the founders is in the evidence pack.
- Exchange order books are not in this file, so ‘where DOGE trades’ is incomplete if it stops at DEX pools.
REVIEW WHEN
- A contract address appears on the primary dogecoin row.
- The peg’s contract or verdict changes.
- CoinGecko splits or merges the dogecoin id.
